UPS Tracking

About UPS

UPS operates one of the world's largest package networks — founded in 1907 in Seattle, with the largest ground fleet in North America — and offers detailed scan visibility across its ground, air, and international services. UPS tracking numbers (the familiar 1Z format) update at each facility and on the delivery vehicle, typically 4–7 times per shipment.

UPS tracking number format

The standard format is 18 characters: '1Z', a 6-character shipper ID, a 2-digit service level, an 8-digit package number, and a check digit. Less common formats: 'T' + 10 characters, 9 digits, or 26 digits; UPS InfoNotice slips carry a 12-digit number.
